🎯 Role Summary
The Innovative Finance Consultant will support Giga, the joint UNICEF–ITU initiative aimed at connecting every school to the internet. The consultant will lead the exploration, structuring, and integration of blended finance mechanisms to drive investments into last-mile connectivity, while positioning Connectivity Credits as verifiable impact tools. The role also strengthens UNICEF’s strategic engagements with partners like the World Bank Group and contributes directly to closing the global digital divide.
🧩 Key Responsibilities
- Identify and engage fund managers, DFIs, impact investors, and corporate partners.
- Develop an engagement strategy positioning Giga as a technical assistance provider for the World Bank Group.
- Leverage networks to secure anchor partners and financing commitments.
- Co-develop materials, including strategic decks, briefs, and MoUs.
- Provide strategic input on blended finance structures, governance, and capital stacking.
- Advise on integrating Connectivity Credits as impact verification tools.
- Support pilot preparation, including country selection and partner engagement.
- Represent UNICEF/Giga at global events (UNGA, WB/IMF Meetings, MWC, COP).
- Generate knowledge products, reports, and investor-facing documentation.
🎓 Required Qualifications
Education:
- Advanced degree in Finance, Economics, Public Policy, Business Administration, Law, or related field.
- A first-level degree + 2 extra years of experience may substitute for the advanced degree.
Experience:
- Minimum 5 years of experience in blended finance, impact investment, digital infrastructure financing, or development finance.
- Proven track record engaging DFIs, governments, philanthropy, and private investors.
- Experience working in emerging markets is highly desirable.
Language:
- Fluency in English required.
- Knowledge of an additional UN language (Arabic, Chinese, French, Russian, Spanish) is an added asset.
