🎯 Role Summary

The Senior Advisor – Climate Adaptation will provide technical leadership and expertise within Mercy Corps’ Climate & Water Security team, supporting the design, implementation, and scaling of high-impact climate adaptation programs. The role involves leading climate resilience initiatives, supporting program development, and strengthening organizational capacity in climate finance and adaptation strategies. This position will be key in ensuring Mercy Corps’ global programs effectively address the impacts of climate change while advancing resilience and sustainability across communities.

🧩 Key Responsibilities

  • Lead and support program design and proposal development for major donors and climate finance institutions.
  • Provide technical expertise to Mercy Corps teams globally, ensuring program quality and integration of climate adaptation best practices.
  • Develop tools, training, and knowledge products to enhance field teams’ capacity in climate and water security.
  • Represent Mercy Corps in international forums, academic conferences, and climate policy discussions.
  • Collaborate with global and regional teams to align program strategies with Mercy Corps’ global 10-year vision.
  • Strengthen partnerships with key stakeholders including the Green Climate Fund, Adaptation Fund, and other donors.
  • Promote learning and innovation through research, evaluation, and community of practice engagement.

🎓 Required Qualifications

Education:

  • Bachelor’s degree required; Master’s degree or equivalent in Climate Science, Environmental Studies, Development, or related fields preferred.

Experience:

  • Minimum 5–7 years of professional experience providing technical support in climate adaptation or resilience programming.
  • Proven experience in program design, proposal writing, and fundraising with public and private climate finance institutions.
  • Track record of managing complex, multi-sectoral projects and mentoring teams.

Language:

  • Fluency in English required; proficiency in another international language is an asset.
