Duties and responsibilities

  • TRACK 1: DATA Analysis
  • Assist in conducting independent research to support OSAA’s production of SG reports, analytical papers, policy briefs, and fact sheets through data validation and the informed selection of quantitative indicators, enhancing cross-pillar and integrated reporting efforts.
  • Support identifying and addressing data gaps in regions with limited primary data availability by leveraging secondary sources, thus reinforcing the evidence base for economic, conflict, human rights, and other domain-specific analyses within OSAA’s analytical outputs.
  • Assist in developing basic GIS maps (base, choropleth, heat, proportional, dot density) and annotating satellite imagery with established geospatial techniques and software.
  • Support with analyzing decisions from risk prevention forums and producing reports to guide OSAA’s strategic planning.
  • Assist in creating dashboards and visualizations for senior management to aid decision-making processes and provide user support for these tools.

Duties and responsibilities

  • The Social Development Division/Sustainable Socioeconomic Transformation Section internship is for 2-4 months with an opportunity for extension up to 6 months, pending on the needs of the department.
  • The internship is unpaid and full-time. Interns work five days per week (37.5 hours) under the supervision of a staff member in the Sustainable Socio-economic Transformation Section.
  • The Social Development Division consists of three sections, namely: 1) Sustainable Demographic Transition Section (SDTS); 2) Sustainable Socioeconomic Transformation Section (SETS); and 3) Gender Equality and Social Inclusion Section (GESIS), covering the thematic areas of inequality and social protection, population dynamics, ageing, migration, gender equality, disability, and youth.
  • SETS covers the thematic areas of poverty reduction, financing for social development, inequality, and social protection and has a team made up of professional and general service staff with experience in diverse socioeconomic fields.

  • These internship positions (2) are located in the Communications and External Relations (CER), Office of the Secretary-General at the United Nations Trade and Development (UNCTAD), in Geneva, Switzerland.
  • The CER team is responsible for producing a wide array of communication materials to promote the work of UNCTAD, including news articles, videos, infographics, brochures, booklets, webpages, and social media content, as well as other outreach materials aimed at raising awareness about the organization’s initiatives.
  • These positions are in-person for an initial period of three months, with the start date as soon as possible.
  • The position is based in Geneva, and the intern will work under the supervision of a senior colleague.
  • The United Nations Internship Programme is unpaid and full-time. Interns are expected to work five days per week (40 hours).
  • For those undertaking in-person internships, a valid visa and medical insurance coverage in Switzerland for the duration of the internship are required.
  • All costs related to travel, accommodation, medical insurance, and living expenses must be borne by the intern. The intern will assist with various multimedia and communication-related tasks, contributing to UNCTAD’s mission to disseminate accurate and impactful content to the public.
