About UNICEF
The UNICEF assignment will cover the contribution of the UN Volunteer to the effectiveness and efficiency of the Supply and Procurement Unit, the implementation of the supply chain management, by providing support and assistance to all staff in the assigned areas of responsibility.
Mission and objectives: UNICEF in Turkey works to protect the rights of children and adolescents in Turkey since 1951. UNICEF’s programme in Turkey focuses on the needs of the most vulnerable children in the areas of education, child protection, health care, social policy, adolescents, and youth, in line with the UN Convention on the Rights of the Child.
Context: The UN Volunteer is expected to deliver the below tasks in accordance with the timeline, specifications, and standards provided by UNICEF’s country programme focuses on the needs of the most vulnerable children living in Türkiye in the fields of education, child protection, health, social policy, adolescence and youth, and early childhood development in line with the United Nations Convention on the Rights of the Child.

Task description
- The assignment will cover the contribution of the UN Volunteer to the effectiveness and efficiency of the Supply and Procurement Unit, the implementation of supply chain management, by providing support and assistance to all staff in the assigned areas of responsibility. UN Volunteer will undertake the following tasks:
- Support the Supply and Procurement (S&P) Unit in carrying out market research analysis,
- Support the S&P unit to carry out an analysis and establish a range of appropriate costs for the commonly budgeted items,
- Support the S&P to adopt a series of cost-saving measures as per the initiatives proposed by the UNICEF Greening Group in TCO,
- Support the Supply and Procurement Unit in carrying out research on market shaping and different engagement modalities: how it is done in the UN and specifically in UNICEF,
- Support S&P unit to leveraging the power of business and markets by creating shared value through commercial engagement, influencing markets, product innovation and other engagement modalities,
- Prepare Solicitation documents,
- Bid tabulation and adjudication,
- All kinds of filings, both electronic and manual,
- Administrative and logistical support to supply unit,
- Identify and update vendor database,
- Prepare reference letters requested by the vendors,
- Tasks assigned by the supply team.

- Age: 18 – 80
- Nationality: The candidate must be a national or legal resident of the country of assignment.

- Required education level; Bachelor degree or equivalent in economics, business administration, supply chain management, logistics, procurement, contract/commercial law management, international relations, social sciences, international development, or a related social science field.

Living conditions and remarks
- Volunteer Living Allowance (per month): USD 1,088 (paid in Turkish Lira)
- Entry lump sum (one-time payment): USD 400
- Exit allowance: USD 113 per contract service month (when successful completion of the assignment)
- Medical, dental, life and disability insurance: Cigna Private Insurance (including eligible dependents)
- Annual leave: 2.5 days accrued per calendar month. Uncertified sick leave: 7 days for 12 months and 4 days for shorter assignments
- Access to different learning platforms and UN & UNV network Ankara, the capital of Turkey, has a temperate and semi-arid climate with four distinct seasons.
- Winters are freezing, while summers are hot. Rainfall is common during spring, and snowfall is frequent in winter.
- Ankara is a safe city with a low crime rate. However, it is always advisable to take necessary precautions to ensure personal safety.
- The city has excellent air travel connections, with the Esenboğa International Airport located 28 km northeast of the city center.
- In terms of cultural awareness, Turkey is a predominantly Muslim country, and it is customary to dress modestly in public places.
- Alcohol consumption is legal, but it is not widely consumed in public places.
- The cost of living in Ankara is relatively low compared to other European cities.
- Accommodation options include apartments, villas, and houses. Ankara has excellent medical facilities with both public and private hospitals.
- The city has several well-equipped hospitals, including Medicana International Ankara Hospital and the Memorial Ankara Hospital. Banking facilities are widely available in Ankara, with several local and international banks operating in the city.
- Communications infrastructure is also well developed, with high-speed internet and mobile networks available throughout the city.
- Turkiye is a unique country and UNICEF is a unique (humanitarian) operation.
- It provides for an interesting and enriching environment but also requires a mature level of cultural awareness, as well as more stamina and commitment than elsewhere to make life comfortable and affordable.
- Therefore, flexibility and the ability and willingness to live and work in harsh and potentially hazardous conditions, involving physical hardship and little comfort, are essential.
